August Garden Social

We've found it necessary to re-schedule a bit, so get out your favorite salad recipe and plan on a lovely summer evening in Karen's backyard.
As usual, we will be combining our social with humanitarian projects! This year's event will include a clothing exchange (for women and children), food donations for the local food bank, and quilt tieing. Young women are invited!
The gathering will start at 6:30 please bring your own chair. Oh--and Sara will be teaching us a "cute cupcake" class as well. See you at the social!

Chistmas in July Recap

It's not every day that you walk in to the church in July to hear Bing singing about a White Christmas, and yes, it was a little disconcerting. The Christmas Trees, the lights, the pine boughs and cones all combined to make a festive light-hearted evening. We enjoyed panini sandwiches, smoothies and Christmas cookies, but most of all we enjoyed an evening together. Thank you to all who attended and arranged for this enjoyable evening!
Recipe and ideas for smoothies will be forthcoming!

Hoe Down

Now that was fun! A little BBQ, a little dancing, a little resting, a bit more dancing... a lot more resting...well you get the idea! Tod and I had a great time with our ward family on this evening. We were reacquainted with terminology we hadn't heard since the 4th grade "all square up and circle left" and such. No, your other left!
Thanks for coming and thanks for staying and letting us share an evening with you.

72 hour kits

Thanks to Beth for doing all kinds of research for us about 72 hour kits. Here is a great website to look at...

http://preparedldsfamily.blogspot.com/2009/03/72-hour-kits-food-packs.html

You will need to cut and paste it into the URL at the top of the screen. The kits we want to put together are about the size of a scrapbook paper (12X12).

As Beth was looking at some of the things in the bag that I opened and then comparing those items to what she researched she came up with a modified version. Below you will see the results of her efforts. Remember, these are just ideas and you can do what you want with your bag. The bags cost $1.25 each and then you need your supplies. By no means is the list below going to satisfy you completely, but it would be great to have as a basic kit!

Modified Version for all 3 days

3 packages of twin poptarts

6 protein bars

3-6 Granola bars

3 soups (Flat light weight) or Ramen noodles

3-6 small fruit snack packages

3 fruit cups

3 small raisin packages

Small bag of gum and candy

Grab separately 2 water bottles per person per day

If you want to make these, please let Shanon know as soon as possible. I can't return the bags, so I need firm orders in advance. If we don't have enough interest right now we can work on it over the next few months.

Matters of the Heart

Thanks for all of you who came to our evening of Matters of the Heart! You are our Valentines!
Sister Young gave us such great information about remembering who our teens are and how that will help us to keep all things in perspective as we raise these children of our Father in Heaven. She was delightful to listen to.
Zak Lyman taught us about our healthy hearts and gave us some hands-on opportunities to work through some CPR techniques. We all learned so much from his discussion and his expertise.
I must say the the chocolate fountain was so much fun! It's was beautiful as a centerpiece and delicious as a treat! See you next month for the commemoration!
